Welcome to YA
Scavenger Hunt! This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give
readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite
authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get
access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt.
Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast...this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will
only be online for 72 hours!
Go to the YA ScavengerHunt page to find out all about the hunt. There
are SIX contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a
part of the TEAM ORANGE but
there is also a red team, a gold team, an orange team, a red team, and an indie
team for a chance to win a whole different set of signed books!
If you’d like to find out more about
the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of
prizes up for grabs, go to the YAScavenger Hunt page.

SCAVENGER HUNT POST
Today I’m thrilled to be hosting Adi Rule for the YA Scavenger Hunt!
Adi Rule is the author of STRANGE
SWEET SONG (St. Martins) Adi writes in a studio
apartment filled with cats who hate each other. When she's not writing, she
sings in the chorus of the Boston Symphony Orchestra/Boston Pops and plays
Triple Yahtzee with her grandmother. She has an MFA from the Vermont College of
Fine Arts. To find
out more about Adi and her books visit her website or buy The Rules for
Breaking at Barnes
and Nobles!
SWEET STRANGE SONG
Music flows in Sing Da Navelli's blood, but she is
still intimidated by her new school, the prestigious Dunhammond Conservatory.
As Sing struggles to escape the long shadows of her famous parents and prove
her own worth, she is drawn to the conservatory's icy forest, a place steeped
in history, magic, and danger. With the help of a dark-eyed apprentice who has
secrets of his own, Sing must unravel the story of the forbidden forest and the
strange creature who lives there -- and find her own voice.
Check out this exclusive content
from Adi’s book STRANGE SWEET SONG.
This is
a drawing Adi did of the Dunhammond Conservatory campus early in the writing
process. (The drawing, fittingly, was ripped up by her cat, but she taped it back
together.)
And here
are never-before-seen words to Angelique's second aria from Angélique, written
by her dear friend Béatrice Clerc. She'd written the first two lines,
which are all that appear in the novel, and she ran with it. Merci, Béatrice! (English translation included for those of us who don't parlez le français)
Quand il se trouvera dans
la forêt sombre,
Il comprendra ce que c'est
que d'être seul.
Voilà mon beau prince qui
m’a quitté,
Parti affronter le Félix,
cette bête immonde,
ce monstre cruel et sans
pitié,
que jamais personne n’a pu
vaincre.
Mon beau prince, fier et
courageux,
Ignorant la peur et le
froid,
tu chevauches dans le
crépuscule,
avec pour compagnie
les animaux de nuit.
Mon beau prince valeureux,
seul dans le froid, tu
veux sauver le village,
seul dans le noir, tu te
crois invincible,
seul dans la lutte, ne
compte que sur toi.
Mon beau prince en danger,
qui n’a connu que richesse
et confort,
tu connais l’adversité des
joutes,
mais sauras-tu vaincre le
Félix,
s’il te faut lutter corps
à corps ?
Mon beau prince généreux,
nous étions faits l’un pour
l’autre,
nous nous sommes cherchés
longtemps,
enfin unis par le
sentiment,
rien au monde ne pourra
nous séparer.
Mon beau prince
mortellement blessé,
si la mort décide de
t’emporter ,
promis, tu ne partiras pas
seul,
où tu iras, je te
rejoindrais,
et tous deux unis dans les
cieux,
nous nous embrasserons
pour l’éternité.

When he finds himself in
the dark forest,
He will know what it is to
be alone.
There is my handsome
prince who left me,
Gone to face the Felix,
this filthy beast,
this cruel and merciless
monster,
that no one could defeat.
My handsome prince, proud
and courageous,
Ignoring fear and cold,
you ride at dusk,
accompanied by night
animals.
My handsome, valiant
prince,
alone in the cold, you
want to save the village,
alone in the dark, you
believe you’re invincible,
alone in battle, counting
on you.
My handsome prince in
danger,
who has known only riches
and comfort,
you understand jousting
competitions,
but can you defeat the
Felix,
if you must fight
hand-to-hand?
My handsome, generous
prince,
we were made for each
other,
we searched for each other
for a long time,
at last united by feeling,
nothing in the world can
separate us.
My handsome prince,
mortally wounded,
if death decides to take
you,
it is promised, you will
not go alone,
where you go, I will join
you,
and, united in heaven,
we will kiss forever.
