When Did I Become the Litmus Test?

I operate on the fringe of my son's Middle School PTA.  You know, the person you call when you need three dozen cupcakes for a school bake sale tomorrow or a case of Gatorade for the Cross Country Team.   They jokingly refer to me as the go to girl for picking up pieces.

Yesterday I got charged with the task of reviewing the DJ's playlist for the upcoming Middle School Halloween dance.  Yes . . . I am the one they went to for determination of appropriateness.  I am to filter out all songs with curse words and suggestive themes.  Funny, absolutely hilarious that I am their litmus test considering what I write.

But that is neither here nor there.  The bigger challenge is finding 50 songs, popular songs, that 14 year olds listen to and DO NOT have foul language or suggestive themes. I think it it is nearly impossible!  So right now, I have a list of ten songs, and WHISTLE is not on it  LOL!  Any one out there have any suggestions?

  1. I have a 14-year-old stepson, and don't have any suggestions for you. I don't actually hear much of the music he listens to, since his i-Pod ear buds are firmly in place most of the time :) I know he likes Mumford & Sons, and they have some good song choices that are swear-word-free (one song has the f-word to look out for). Come to think of it, I don't think they really do dance music, though. Sorry I can't help~ best of luck!

    1. My son knows it, but mostly because he thinks the Stay Puff marshmallow giant is hilarious. Go figure -- odd things make 13 year old boys laugh.

  3. Not an easy task at all. The things my children download are crazy.

I wouldn't want that job. I'd rather do the cupcakes. Lol

    1. I know, in the last three days I have learned at least a half-dozen ways to creatively use the word motherf*#ker!

  4. Ah! can't imagine having to do that. My kids (all under the age of 7) love the whistle song because of...the whistling. And it is a highly inappropriate song! Do you have Taylor SWift on the list? I'm not a huge fan of hers, but seems like her songs are more appropriate. I guess I'm not hip and with it so i can't think of anything else.

    1. Yes, she is on the list. The girls in his class love her; the boys hate her. Go figure.
