EXPECTATIONS
I think as writers we are always trying to manage our expectations, keep them in line with an industry where trends are emerging and dying out like seasons. We are all on different, but equally important paths. Whether we are self-pubbed, Indie, or sitting with a traditional publisher... whether we are querying, editing, or staring at our book on the shelf of Barnes and Nobles our expectations are the same -- for people to love, connect with and understand our writing. And I truly believe, regardless to where you are on this writing journey, that it is that shared expectation that bonds us together as a writing community.
I agree! One of the things I love about social networking is that we really do all have this shared desire!
ReplyDeleteI think that common bond is what gets us through some of the tougher sides of this industry -- having writing friends who understand BECAUSE they have been there.
DeleteCongratulations on reaching the end of the first week with us. I expect that I shall be seeing you next week too!
ReplyDeleteI will be there, ready to kick off a whole new week of alphabet fun!
DeleteIt's a process of curbing your expectations! Learning that we've embarked on a hard line of work that someone will always find fault with. The hope is that we find an audience somewhere that does appreciate us!
ReplyDeleteyes, Kim, we do seem to be constantly curbing and redefining our expectations. At least the goal -- people loving out book -- remains constant. Thanks for commenting.
DeleteMost of my expectations are of myself and how I will polish my writing, at the moment. I'm pretty sure I'll be self-publishing, so that will be a pretty major undertaking too!
ReplyDeleteSelf-pubbing...how so exciting for you!! Look forward to reading.
DeleteVery beautiful and well put, Trisha. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lexa.
