1000 Miles, Two Minutes and Bragging Rights.

Two co-authors, one from Chicago, one from Boston, meet to have dinner and watch game six of the Stanley cup.  One of us *cough* Lindsay Currie, went away happy with bragging rights.  The other, me, is still sputtering over the last two minutes of the game.  Fun times in Chicago!

Summer Chaos

Two of my three kids have finished school; the youngest has two more weeks.  Which, as you can imagine, means a daily battle with a six year old as to why she has to get dressed when her siblings sleep in.  Yeah...not fun.  Anyhow, I have a love hate relationship with summer.  I love the fact that I don't have a schedule --  no carpooling, no sports practices, no school projects that somehow become my responsibility.

And I hate that we have no schedule.  I like things neat and tidy. Give me a place to be, a deadline to meet and suddenly my life has purpose.

This year, against my better wisdom, I have decided to embrace the chaos that is summer and have made a list of things I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT DO:

~I will not vacuum the sand out of the car each time we go to the beach. (and we live on CAPE COD so that is going to be hard)

~I will let my kids nasty up the fire pit with chocolate and marshmallows and not make them them hose it out after.

~I will believe my 14 year old son when he says he has sunblock and not freak out when he comes back burnt and literally baking in his own lie.

~I will take a road trip and not worry if I am two hours or two days late.

~And at least once a week, I will consider swimming in the lake equivalent to a bath. (For my kids not me!)

How about you...any big summer "non-plans?"
